According to a statement from MIMOS Berhad, the MyDigital ID system, which refrains from storing biometric data like fingerprints, iris scans, or facial recognition, as well as eschews the use of chips or implants, assures users that it neither collects nor monitors personal data, online activities, and restricts users from having more than one digital identity.
MIMOS emphasised that MyDigital ID is not a substitute for MyKad in identity verification and highlighted its application on government portals, ensuring secure transactions through a cryptographic-based system, endorsed by Common Criteria Certification with EAL3+.
The smartphone application of MyDigital ID uses cryptography to securely bind individuals’ identities, safeguarding names and identification numbers.
The statement underscores MyDigital ID as a testament to the government’s commitment to providing secure digital services and advancing towards a user-friendly digital environment, aligning with the government’s vision of leveraging technology for empowerment.
MyDigital ID acts as an online verification method, streamlining access to various government digital platforms, eliminating the need for repeated logins, and enhancing digital interaction with government agencies.
Currently, MyDigital ID registration is open to all government employees. MyDigital
ID registration for the general public will commence in March 2024.
