The Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with the state government, are implementing initiatives to enhance internet connectivity in Perak, with a targeted completion date of the end of 2025.

These efforts, part of the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela), involve the construction of telecommunication towers, the expansion of 5G coverage, and the establishment of digital economy centres to provide collective internet access in rural areas, based on Bernama’s news report.

Among the specific initiatives are the construction of 206 new telecommunication structures, upgrading 2,500 transmitting stations to 4G/LTE technology, and providing fibre optic connections to over 331,000 premises.

The point of presence (PoP) initiative aims to establish fibre-optic broadband infrastructure for schools and industrial areas, with the first phase completed in 55 locations and the second phase underway in 510 locations.

Additionally, all 83 exchange areas of Telekom Malaysia (TM) in Perak have been upgraded, with Unifi subscriptions surpassing 60% of available ports as of November 2023.
