Elon Musk just launched his first artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot from his new AI company, xAI, and he named it “Grok”, which is based on the comedy sci-fi “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”.
The AI is supposed to have “a bit of wit,” “a rebellious streak” and it should answer the “spicy questions” that other AI chatbots might avoid answering.
Grok also accesses data from X, providing it with a competitive advantage, as stated by xAI. Musk posted a side-by-side comparison of Grok answering a question compared to another AI bot, which he mentioned had outdated information.
But xAI stated that as with other chatbots based on Large Language Model, or LLM, Grok “can still generate false or contradictory information.”
But Musk tweeted that Grok “In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists”.
Musk seems to be positioning xAI as a contender against companies such as OpenAI, Inflection, and Anthropic, according to CNBC.
During preliminary tests focused on middle school math problems and Python coding tasks, the company reported that Grok outperformed “all other models in its compute class, including ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1.” It fell short when compared to bots with larger datasets.
Grok is currently in its early beta phase, with just two months of training, and is accessible to a limited number of users for testing before the company’s broader release.
Users have the option to join a waitlist for an opportunity to try out the bot. Musk stated that in the future, Grok will become a part of X Premium+, which is priced at RM70 per month or RM738 per year.
