Some WhatsApp beta users on Android discovered that the platform has implemented a new security feature for their accounts after updating the app to the latest beta version.

According to WABetaInfo, there’s a new section called “Email Address” that enables users to link an email address to their WhatsApp account for enhanced security.

This email address will play a key role in facilitating account access in specific scenarios. To check if this feature is currently accessible for your account, you can go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Email Address, where you can set up this feature.

While this feature is optional, it’s advisable to activate it if you wish to log into your WhatsApp account on a different device using your email. However, please be aware that the option to use SMS for login remains available.

Even if you opt to link your email address to your WhatsApp account, it’s important to note that you will still be required to provide your phone number during the account creation process.

You will always retain the option to log into your account using your phone number. Your phone number continues to serve as the primary and most vital identifier for your WhatsApp account and a fundamental means of accessing it.

This feature is currently accessible to select beta testers who install the most recent WhatsApp beta updates for Android from the Google Play Store. But, it will be gradually made available to a broader audience in the upcoming weeks.
