Eleven highway concession companies have officially implemented the Open Payment Toll Collection System (SPT), starting today.

Public Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi was quoted by Berita Harian saying that the implementation will give highway users more options to make toll payments.

I am proud that the Lembaga Lebuhraya (LLM) was able to fulfill its promise to allow these 11 concession companies to open at least one SPT lane. Now highway users are not limited to Touch n Go, Smart Tag and RFID payments but are also given the option to make payments with credit and debit cards. If it is limited to only one system, there may sometimes be a lack of balance and it will cause problems. So what we are doing is one of the plans for us to implement Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF)

Public Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi

He was present during the launch of the SPT system at the Toll Plaza. Loke Yew, Sungai Besi Highway (BESRAYA).

Besides BESRAYA, other concession companies that also implement the SPT system are:

  • New Pantai Expressway (NPE)
  • Ampang – Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (AKLEH)
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE)
  • Damansara – Puchong Expressway (LDP)
  • SPRINT Expressway
  • Shah Alam Expressway
  • Stormwater Management And Road Tunnel (SMART)
  • Kuala Lumpur – Putrajaya Expressway (MEX)
  • Duta – Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE)
  • Kulim – Butterworth Highway (BKE)

According to reports, a total of 12 concession companies have agreed to implement SPT, but the implementation at the Penang Bridge is expected to start at the end of this year to allow further research and details to be made by concession companies.

Alexander also mentioned on adding more concession companies, saying the discussion process is being held.

It is true that we want any (concession company) that is able to implement (the SPT system) and we have also discussed it. However, we do not want to press them 100 percent because we understand that they may have other implications and we do not want to cause problems for the concession company. But we emphasize that this implementation is to make it easier for highway users, so we invite these concession companies to join this program. Indeed, we hold a continuous discussion process.
