The share subscription agreement signing, which is expected to finalise the appointment of Digital Nasional Bhd’s (DNB) new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), will be overseen by Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and Communication and Digital secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, co-chairs of the 5G task force.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, in a press conference following the Malaysia Digital Expo (MDX 2023) launch, revealed that he has informed all CEOs of mobile network operators (MNOs) about the impending signing. He expressed hope that the signing would occur next week if all goes smoothly.

Fahmi stated that the announcement of the CEO would likely take place either during or shortly after the signing, once all participating MNOs have secured their equity stakes, according to Bernama’s news report.

At the moment, DNB is under the leadership of Nasution bin Mohamed, who serves as the Chief Operating Officer, and Datuk Ahmad Zaki bin Zahid, who holds the position of Chief Strategy Officer.

Previously, Fahmi had confirmed that all telecommunication companies had agreed to sign the access agreement to provide 5G services, but the details of share ownership in DNB had not yet been disclosed.

On 21 July, Fahmi had mentioned that CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia (TM), U Mobile, and YTL Communications were in the final stages of negotiations regarding their equity holdings in DNB, a move aimed at furthering the development of the 5G network until it covers 80% of populated areas by year-end.
