If you have been wanting to use WhatsApp on your iPad for a long time, your wish has just been granted.
WhatsApp has recently introduced an option in the latest WhatsApp Beta for TestFlight, allowing users to use WhatsApp on an iPad independently, separate from the need for an iPhone.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has initiated testing for using iPads as linked devices in its latest beta release. This new companion mode also ensures that any messages sent or received on an iPad are synchronised with the user’s primary phone, regardless of whether it’s an iPhone or an Android device.
The linked device feature allows users to link up to four devices simultaneously and any messages sent to you will be encrypted and sent to all your linked devices. This feature already includes support for Macs but not for iPads.
To facilitate testing of the companion mode, WhatsApp had previously launched a native iPad app developed using Catalyst, allowing users to begin testing both the feature and the app.
Now, a beta version that is compatible with iPads can be installed via the TestFlight app by all testers using the iOS beta app.
Please note that this version is currently in beta, and the companion mode is still under development.
Consequently, certain features, such as the ability to view and post status updates, as well as some functionalities related to live location, may not function as expected.
WhatsApp intends to address these issues by implementing bug fixes and making several improvements in a forthcoming app update.
For those who have access to the WhatsApp beta iOS program, you can now install the app on your iPad starting today. If you don’t have access to WhatsApp beta on TestFlight, please wait until it becomes available on the App Store.
At the time of writing, WhatsApp has not provided any information regarding the release date for the official WhatsApp for iPad app on the App Store.
