Maybank’s Facebook page has issued a warning, notifying customers about a phishing email being employed by scammers to deceive them into revealing their login credentials and credit card particulars.
The warning showcases an instance of a counterfeit email, masquerading as originating from Maybank’s technical department. This fabricated email alleges that the recipient’s account has been locked due to security reasons.
Within the simulated email, there is a fake login button, accompanied by instructions stipulating that customers who receive the email and fail to authenticate themselves will encounter obstructions in their transactions.
Maybank stressed that in the Facebook post that it will not distribute clickable links to customers or solicite their personal banking information.
Furthermore, the post urges customers not to click on dubious links transmitted through email, chats, or SMS messages.
It strongly advises against sharing usernames or passwords and underscores the importance of safeguarding TAC (transaction authorisation code) and OTP (one-time password) codes.
