Maybank’s banking application, MAE, is set to bring relief to its users as it plans to introduce a long-term solution for managing multiple accounts within the app in the fourth quarter of this year.

Kalyani Nair, the Chief Digital Officer of Maybank, assured customers, particularly those with single-owned business accounts, that the forthcoming solution will completely resolve their issues, according to Berita Harian.

She mentioned that the bank truly understands and listens to the complaints of customers who have multiple accounts and are currently facing difficulties in conducting banking transactions.

“For now, as a short-term measure, customers can continue to connect with us to receive assistance in resolving their problems. This lasting solution will not entail the introduction of a new application but rather the enhancement of existing applications, specifically MAE and M2U BIZ,” Nair stated.

In recent times, numerous Maybank users have taken to social media to express their difficulties when performing banking transactions through the MAE app, particularly when dealing with multiple bank accounts.

This problem stems from the app’s inability to support multiple accounts, as it cites security concerns and directives from the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

Providing more details, Nair mentioned that the MAE app, launched in 2020, allowed ample time for customers to transition from the old M2U app to the more secure MAE app.

Maybank aimed for customers to become familiar with the new app before transferring all banking functions from the old application to MAE.

“Consequently, beginning on 1 July 2023, all banking functions can exclusively be conducted on MAE. Meanwhile, the M2U app will only allow customers to check balances, make personal account transfers, and top up prepaid values.”

“Many customers have questioned the necessity of switching to MAE when M2U was functioning effectively. One reason is security, as we intend customers to use a single device to confirm transactions.”

Nair clarified that MAE adheres to higher security standards and offers more features, including the secure2u function, compared to the older app.

She further added that customers with multiple personal accounts can consolidate them into a single MAE account.

“However, the current hurdle is the inability to combine personal and business accounts within one app due to their distinct nature. Similarly, if customers own two or more businesses, their accounts cannot be merged into a single MAE account.”

“We are actively working to resolve this matter and will unveil the solution in the fourth quarter of this year,” Nair concluded.
