WhatsApp announced that they are rolling out a new voice chat feature for large groups. This feature is designed to minimise disruptions compared to a group call, which triggers ringing for every member in the group.
Voice chats are initiated discreetly, devoid of any ringing, through an in-chat bubble that users can tap to join.
This feature enables users to engage in discussions with those who are available to join, while also permitting ongoing messaging with those who are unable to participate.
Users can swiftly unmute, end the call, or message the group without exiting the voice chat, using the call controls located at the top of the chat.
This update will be gradually rolled out globally to large groups in the coming weeks, prioritising those with 33 people or more.
WhatsApp emphasises that it upholds end-to-end encryption by default, ensuring the security of voice chats.
