YouTube has ramped up its endeavours to encourage non-subscribing viewers to enroll in its Premium service, which provides an ad-free experience, enabling viewers to enjoy videos without any interruptions.
But there are still many viewers who refuse to subscribe to Premium and continue using ad blockers to watch videos. To combat this, the giant video sharing site has decided to implement a new solution.
YouTube is currently testing a new anti-ad blocker popup incorporating a timer notification, indicating when the subsequent advertisement will appear, according to Search Engine Land.
A countdown clock, which runs for approximately 30 to 60 seconds, is also shown at the upper right corner of the message.
This clock informs non-Premium subscribing viewers of the time remaining before another ad initiates. Viewers will have no choice but to either grant permission for YouTube Ads or subscribe to YouTube Premium.
This warning is being directed at specific user groups globally who use ad blockers. Upon signing into their accounts, all videos remain inaccessible unless the users either adjust their settings to disallow ad blockers or become YouTube Premium subscribers.
YouTube asserts that these actions are taken to ensure equitable compensation for its content creators, highlighting that ad blockers contravene the company’s Terms of Service.
