In the modern era, password-based security has become insufficient to meet the demands of today’s digital landscape.
Cybercriminals are harnessing advanced tools, including more powerful graphics cards and machine learning techniques, to refine their attack strategies.
This newfound capability enables them to breach passwords within a matter of seconds, highlighting the urgency for more robust security measures.
Many of us rely on WhatsApp for work and personal communications, which is why the giant instant messaging company is working on a new security feature to better protect its users privacy and security.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is actively developing a passkey feature aimed at enhancing account verification.
This upcoming feature will empower users with a straightforward means of securely logging in. A passkey, comprising a concise sequence of characters or numbers, serves as an authentication mechanism, acting as a protective code to exclusively authenticate authorised devices.
There’s no need to memorise the passkey, as it’s securely stored within Google Password Manager.
Google says that passkeys are a safer and easier alternative to passwords. With passkeys, users can sign in to apps and websites with a biometric sensor (such as a fingerprint or facial recognition), PIN, or pattern, freeing them from having to remember and manage passwords.
Furthermore, the secure housing of passkeys within Google Password Manager ensures convenient accessibility while upholding robust defences against unauthorised entry.
This security feature is currently in development and is slated for release in the forthcoming app update.
