The government might explore the integration of ChatGPT into government services to manage public inquiries according to Minister Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) Chang Lih Kang, as reported by The Star.

Minister Chang Lih Kang expressed admiration for ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence-driven (AI) chatbot employing a large language model developed by OpenAI, which is capable of generating text resembling human language.

A large language model (MLM) refers to a specific kind of AI algorithm that employs deep learning methods and vast datasets to comprehend, condense, create, and predict new content.

Chang noted the considerable potential in incorporating ChatGPT into government services and highlighted the possibility of leveraging its capabilities to address public queries related to government matters.

He emphasised that a substantial amount of resources are currently allocated to handle these inquiries and suggested that with sufficient training, ChatGPT could be integrated effectively into government services.

Chang also discussed the promising role of AI, particularly in sectors like agriculture, where it could play a crucial role in enhancing food security by boosting productivity and yield control.

Furthermore, he outlined MOSTI’s efforts to secure funding for the Malaysia Science Endowment initiative, aimed at supporting research and development in emerging technologies such as AI.

He revealed plans to raise RM2 billion for this initiative, which would significantly bolster resources for research and development.

Chang stressed the importance of increasing funding for research and development in Malaysia, highlighting the historical allocation of a mere 1% of the GDP for such purposes.

He underscored the government’s commitment to technological advancement, noting Prime Minister Dato’s Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of an additional RM100 million for research, development, commercialisation, and innovation in his Ekonomi Madani economic framework speech on 27 July.
