Last month, we reported that OnePlus is planning to release its first foldable phone, and there were already leaked renders of how the foldable will look. At that time, reports indicated that it would be known as “OnePlus V Fold”, but later reports stated it would be called “OnePlus Open” instead.
It seems the reports are true after all, because the company has started posting teasers on Twitter.
OnePlus seems to have initiated its marketing efforts for the foldable, as evident from a recent teaser video shared on Twitter two days ago. Such promotional activity usually points towards an upcoming launch, and rumours suggest that the foldable smartphone might be unveiled worldwide in late August. Also, OnePlus itself stated that they will be launching a foldable in Q3 2023, adding credence to the rumoured date.
Yesterday, OnePlus made an intriguing announcement on its official Twitter account, strongly suggesting that their upcoming foldable smartphone will be introduced as the “OnePlus Open.” The company also seems to be trying to compete with Samsung. The Korean company just launched their latest foldable yesterday, the Galaxy Z Fold5.
The OnePlus Open is set to deliver a flagship experience, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. Reports suggest that the phone may feature a 2K 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display, ensuring a smooth and high-resolution visual experience.
In terms of photography, the foldable device is rumoured to house a 50MP (IMX 890) primary camera, accompanied by an ultra-wide lens and a periscope lens for enhanced zoom capabilities. For capturing selfies, a 32MP (OV32C) front-facing camera is included. Since there are two selfie cameras, we don’t know whether both of them are 32MP.
To accommodate extended usage, the foldable is said to come equipped with a 4,800mAh battery. Additionally, it is rumoured to support 100W SuperVOOC fast charging.
