Previously, the government introduces eBelia Rahmah initiative for young individuals aged 18 to 20 or full-time students enrolled in higher education institutions (IPT), where they can get RM200 e-wallet credit. Now, the government is extending the financial aid to lower income Malaysians as well.
The Star reports that according to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysians earning less than RM100,000 annually will receive an RM100 eWallet credit. The government has allocated RM1 billion for this initiative, and it’s expected that more than 10 million eligible recipients from the B40 and M40 groups will benefit from it.
The Prime Minister made this announcement at the Securities Commissions Malaysia headquarters on Thursday, 27 July, during the launch event of the Madani Economy: Empowering the People economic framework.
Anwar highlighted the success of the eBelia Rahmah program, which not only benefited two million youths but also contributed to the income generation of businesses while promoting a cashless society. This success has led the government to extend the e-wallet credit to other lower income Malaysians as well.
The details of the e-wallet credit program will be disclosed soon, but we imagine it will be similar to the eBelia Rahmah where you can only claim the credit from one of the three e-wallet service providers, namely Boost, Setel, or Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
