Back in May 2023, Sony revealed their PlayStation handheld, known as Project Q, during the PlayStation Showcase, which will allow Wi-Fi streaming of PS5 games directly from a console. After that reveal, the company remains silence about it. But, thanks to a leaker, we have real world images of the handheld console.

The Project Q prototype showcases an 8-inch screen integrated between two halves resembling a DualSense controller. The controller cannot be detached; it’s an integral part of the unit. This design aspect could pose problems, as any drifting of the sticks would necessitate a cumbersome repair process.

The Project Q prototype seems to be operating on a modified version of Android, confirmed by the presence of navigation buttons. The final software version remains to be seen. While specific details about Project Q’s internal components are yet to be revealed, it’s likely to feature a standard Arm-based SoC, delivering ample power for seamless game streaming.

Regrettably, there isn’t any footage demonstrating Project Q running any games. However, Sony’s teaser alluded to its potential to play games at 1080p and 60 FPS. A slight drawback is its battery life, lasting merely four hours, which might be considered relatively low for a device not rendering games natively.

If this is just an Android tablet with an attached controller, we don’t see why players can’t just use their existing Android devices and stream PS5 games from there instead of buying new hardware.
