PlayStation (PS) first revealed the controller during CES 2023 (January 2023) as “Project Leonardo,”. The controller for PS5 is an all-new, highly-customisable accessibility controller kit that they say is designed to help many players with disabilities play games more easily, more comfortably, and for longer periods.

Now, after more than six months since the initial announcement, Sony is finally making the Access controller available for people to buy.

According to PS blog, the Access controller will be available globally on 6 December 2023 for the price of RM449. You can place your pre-order starting 21 July 2023 from select retailers.

The Access controller let gamers personalise their gaming experience by customising the layout with a variety of button and stick caps in different shapes and designs. It enables operation from any 360° orientation and facilitates the connection of third-party accessibility accessories through its four industry-standard 3.5mm expansion ports.

On the PS5 console, users have a range of settings available for the Access controller, allowing them to tailor it to their specific requirements. Users can create up to 30 control profiles by mapping buttons, adjust stick settings, enable or disable commands, and even deactivate buttons to prevent accidental presses. Additionally, users can collaborate by pairing up to two Access controllers and one DualSense wireless controller simultaneously.

Sony said they have created this controller with the help of accessibility organisations and experts. Xbox also has something similar called Xbox Adaptive Controller. But, not for Nintendo Switch gamers. They have to rely on a 3rd party solution by Hori, a peripheral manufacturer. They produced the Hori Flex Assistive Controller.
