If, for some reason, you want to show the person you are talking to that you are authentic, besides showing your photos, you can also record a short video of yourself.

According to WABetaInfo, in the latest beta updates for iOS and Android, WhatsApp is introducing a new feature known as Video Messages. This feature allows users to record an share short videos of up to 60 seconds in duration.

To check whether your WhatsApp account has the capability to record video messages, simply tap the microphone button located in the chat bar of any conversation. If the button transforms into a video camera icon, you can begin recording video messages immediately.

When sending or receiving a video message, you can listen to the audio by tapping the video once to enlarge it, as demonstrated in the above screenshot. To ensure the recipient can receive your video messages, it’s important to ask them to update their WhatsApp as well.

It’s worth emphasising that video messages on WhatsApp are always end-to-end encrypted, providing an additional layer of security. This means that nobody, including WhatsApp itself, can access the content of the messages except for the sender and the recipient involved in the conversation.

WABetaInfo stated that the feature to record and share video messages is currently accessible to select beta testers who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app and WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. However, the availability of this feature will gradually expand to a wider users in the upcoming weeks.

Currently, if you don’t have access to the video messages feature, you can still record a video using a different method and then send it to your recipient through WhatsApp. Although this involves additional steps, the end result remains the same – sharing a video with the intended recipient.
