Say goodbye to storage concerns on your PS5! Soon, you may no longer have to worry about running out of space due to an ever-growing game library. The solution? Streaming games directly from the cloud without the need for downloads.
Sony has recently announced that they are conducting tests for streaming PS5 games from the cloud. The company plans to introduce this feature to its PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Nick Maguire, the Vice President of global services, global sales, and business operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that they are currently testing cloud streaming for supported PS5 games, which includes titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue and Game Trials, as well as digital PS5 games owned by players. The feature will allow players to directly stream supported PS5 titles on their console once it is launched.
Maguire emphasised the importance of Premium members being able to enjoy a wide range of games through cloud streaming. Sony said they are still in the early stages of development and will share more details, including the launch timeframe, at a later date.
Introducing a cloud feature for PS5 games means that players will no longer have to download games to their consoles in order to stream them on other devices. Currently, Sony supports streaming PS5 games to PCs, Macs, iOS, and Android devices, but users need to use their PS5 console as the host to download and stream titles on other devices.
Sony also revealed their PlayStation handheld, known as Project Q, in late May 2023 during the PlayStation Showcase, which will allow Wi-Fi streaming of PS5 games directly from a console. However, it has not been clarified whether the handheld will support PS5 cloud game streaming.
