If you are frustrated that all the photos that you sent through WhatsApp look bad due to compression, you don’t have to worry about that anymore because the giant instant messaging company is finally allowing users to send higher-resolution photos. But there’s a catch.

According to WABetaInfo, this ability to send HD quality photos is only available for some Android and iOS WhatsApp Beta users.

As you can see, there is an option to enhance the quality of the photos you send. This option is only available when you choose a photo that is large in size. It’s important to note that selecting the better quality option doesn’t mean you can send photos in their original uncompressed state. The option maintains the image dimensions but still applies a mild level of compression. By default, the chosen quality is always “Standard,” so if you want to share a new photo with improved quality, you need to manually select the “HD quality” option each time.

By opting for the “high quality” option while sending a photo, it’s distinguished as a high-quality image with the addition of a “HD” tag in the message bubble. This tag helps the recipient recognise when a photo has been sent using this feature. It’s important to emphasise that this feature is restricted to sharing images within your conversations. Consequently, there is no way to send a video with higher quality without sending it as a document. Additionally, this feature cannot be utilised when sharing photos via status updates.

WABetaInfo said the capability to send HD photos is currently being made available to select beta testers but over the next few weeks, this feature will be gradually rolled out to a wider audience, reaching more users.
