ARM is a type of processor architecture that is widely used in mobile devices, embedded systems, and other applications where low power consumption and high performance are essential. ARM processors are also highly customizable, allowing manufacturers to tailor them to specific applications and requirements. As a result, ARM processors have become ubiquitous in the world of mobile computing and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Yesterday, two of the world’s most important tech companies just announced that they will be working together.

Windows Central reports that Intel and Arm have announced a partnership to allow chip designers to create low-power system-on-chips (SoCs) using the Intel 18A process, which offers better power and performance.

While the initial focus is on mobile devices, the collaboration has the potential to extend to other industries such as automotive, IoT, data centres, aerospace, and government uses.

Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger believes that the partnership will expand the market opportunity for Intel Foundry Services (IFS), enabling fabless companies to access best-in-class CPU IP and the power of an open system foundry.

The goal of IFS is to become the world’s second-largest foundry by revenue after TSMC, surpassing Samsung, which is currently in second place. To achieve this, Intel will work with several large companies, including MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Amazon, who have already signed up for IFS.

The addition of Arm to Intel’s partners is significant, as ARM processors power hundreds of billions of devices.
