After releasing GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 last year and 4070 Ti early January this year, the giant graphics card company has finally unveiled the next mid-range graphics card (GPU) yesterday. It goes without saying this is the cheapest desktop RTX 40-series GPU so far.

According to Nvidia, the RTX 4070 is powered by a modified version of the AD104 GPU, which is part of the latest Ada Lovelace architecture. When compared to the RTX 4070 Ti that uses the same GPU, the RTX 4070 has fewer CUDA cores, at 5888 instead of 7680, and a lower boost clock speed of up to 2475MHz instead of 2610MHz. However, both cards have the same memory, which is 12GB GDDR6X with a 192-bit bus, 21Gbps speed, and 504GBps bandwidth.

Like other RTX 40-series cards, the RTX 4070 features the 3rd generation RT cores and 4th generation Tensor cores, enabling features such as shader execution reordering and DLSS3 frame generation. It also has an 8th generation NVENC encoder for encoding in AV1, but only one of these is present on the RTX 4070, whereas other 40-series cards have two.

The RTX 4070 has a total graphics power of 200W, with an average gaming power of 186W according to claims from Nvidia. The company also states that the RTX 4070 performs as well as the RTX 3080 while using nearly half the power.

Additionally, the RTX 4070 has more memory than the standard 3080, with 12GB compared to 10GB. Nvidia also claims that with DLSS 3, the RTX 4070 is 1.4x faster than the 3080 and 2.6x faster than the 2070 Super, neither of which support this feature.

Pricing and Availability

The RTX 4070 Foundry Edition (FE) starts at RM3,049. At the time of writing, we don’t know how much other brands will cost. For comparison, the RTX 4070 Ti FE costs RM4,150.

Nvidia said the RTX 4070 is available starting today, so you might want to check your favourite PC hardware retailers for availability.
