U Mobile surprised everyone when it added a 5G for U page to their website hinting that they have come to an agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) regarding the nationwide 5G rollout.

In a late night post, SoyaCincau reported that the page, which was linked under the Why U Mobile sections of the site, said the customers can experience “Turbo Speeds” in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and Kuala Lumpur. It also says that 5G has landed.

The page has since been removed. However, U Mobile’s coverage map still lists 5G Network as Coming soon, so there is still hope.

The thing is, officially, only two telcos (YTL Communications and Telekom Malaysia) have agreed with the government’s terms for the nationwide 5G roll out and signed up with DNB.

Last we heard, the big four – Celcom Axiata Bhd, DiGi Telecommunications, Maxis Bhd, and U Mobile – not only want a majority stake in DNB, but also a review of DNB’s “Reference Access Offer” (RAO) before they’ll sign up.

They also have a 30 June deadline to finalise their service agreement.
