When the Nothing Phone (1) was released in July 2022, it got quite a lot of attention and for good reason. The phone has a unique design, with a transparent back that reveals the phone’s internals. It also has a number of other interesting features, such as the Glyph Interface, which uses LED lights to provide visual feedback for notifications, charging, and more.

Yesterday, Nothing officially launched the phone and we have the Nothing Phone (2) in the house for review and this is my first impression of it.

The design is the most eye-catching aspect of this phone. The transparent back is a conversation starter, as it show off the phone’s internals and the LED lights. The phone feels solid and well-built, and the top and sides of the back now smoothly curve into the frame, making it comfortable to grip.

The Glyph Interface is cool. It now features 11 segmented LED strips, a notable increase compared to the original Nothing Phone (1) which had only 5. Additionally, the updated Glyph Interface introduces 33 LED lighting zones, a significant upgrade from the previous model’s 12 zones. This enables users to have greater control and customisation options, resulting in more precise manipulation of the LEDs.

The Glyph Interface is a fun way to get visual feedback for notifications, charging, and more. The lights are bright, but still only displays one colour, and they can be customised to your liking. Although it is cool, I wonder how practical it is going to be.

Nothing’s custom Android skin, called Nothing OS 2.0, represents the second major version of their software. Building upon the foundation of Nothing OS 1.0, Nothing OS 2.0 places emphasis on clean design, simplicity, and enhanced performance.

Let’s not forget about the specs. This phone is packing Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is a significant upgrade from the previous Snapdragon 778G+ found in the Phone (1). Not quite the latest flagship chipset, but still very powerful. So, we can expect a huge performance uplift in gaming and daily usage.

Other than that, the phone’s display measures 6.7 inches and utilizes an LTPO OLED panel, providing FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The selfie camera is positioned at the centre and incorporates a 32MP front-facing camera equipped with a Sony IMX615 sensor.

The primary camera on the rear now employs a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor, along with optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilisation (EIS) for enhanced image stability. The camera also features updated HDR and Motion Capture modes. The 50MP ultrawide camera uses the same Samsung JN1 sensor as its predecessor, but now boasts Advanced HDR capabilities.

The battery capacity is 4,700mAh with 45W wired charging speed, wireless charging speed at 15W, and 5W reverse wireless charging. Furthermore, the Nothing Phone (2) has an IP54 splash and dust resistant rating.

The phone comes in 12GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB variants. You can choose either the White or Dark Gray colour.
