Datuk Azman Ismail, former chief of PLUS Malaysia Bhd, is expected to become the next CEO of Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), with an official announcement from the Finance Ministry anticipated this week, according to The Star.
The CEO position at DNB has been vacant since March after the contract of the former CEO, Augustus Ralph Marshall, was not renewed.
DNB was established by the Finance Ministry to spearhead the development of 5G infrastructure in Malaysia.
The announcement of the new CEO is expected after the completion of share subscription agreements (SSAs) between DNB and mobile network operators (MNOs), which are slated to be finalised by mid-October.
Azman’s appointment comes as DNB approaches its 80% 5G coverage target, a crucial milestone for establishing the second network provider. As of 30 September, the 5G coverage has reached 70.2% of populated areas.
Azman brings a wealth of experience, having previously led PLUS Malaysia and served for 30 years at Shell, where he held key leadership roles.
