Shopee claimed to wrap up its most successful 11.11 Sale, with more Malaysians able to enjoy deals and bigger savings on the platform.

Malaysians continued to stock up on groceries like Milo, cereal and instant noodles during the Shopee 11.11 Big Sale festival. The company also said Malaysians spent on more than 1.8 million home improvement and decoration products on the platform.

With the economy reopening and Malaysians resuming out-of-home activities, health and personal care items are the top products purchased with more than 13 million pieces of masks and 30,000 units of Covid-19 test kits sold on the 11.11 sale.

Shopee noted an increase in spending from rural areas and ShopeePay transaction in cities saw a 9 fold increase from an average day.

There were also over 5 million ShopeePay voucher claims throughout the 11.11 Big Sale festival period for offline merchants.

The online shopping site added that the 11.11 sale has helped many local sellers recover with some seeing orders soar up to 18 times more compared to an average day.

Shopee said they were over 2 billion items sold in total during the 11.11 sale across the country, blowing the previous record set in 2020 out of the water.

On the day itself, the application was visited 5.5 times more in the first two hours compared to a normal day.

Malaysians were found to spend more time connecting with sellers and watching their faved celebrities on the Shopee Live streams with 4.8 million hours spent in total.
