Previously, the MacBook Air (MBA) only came in one size: 13 inches. Perhaps seeing that there are demands for a bigger MBA, Apple announced a 15-inch MBA during the Worldwide Developers Conference 2023 yesterday.

To be precise, the MBA has a 15.3-inch Retina display with 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colours, according to Apple.

The bezels surrounding the screen are slim, measuring just 5mm, and the laptop features a 1080p camera housed in a small notch. The MBA is impressively thin, measuring 11.5mm, and weighs a mere 1.496kg.

Apple offers the new model in four colours: Midnight, Starlight, Space Gray, and Silver.

Under the hood, the MBA is powered by the M2 chip, similar to the 13-inch model. It includes an 8-core CPU (consisting of 4 performance and 4 efficient cores), a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. The base configuration starts with 8GB of unified memory, but it can be upgraded to a maximum of 24GB.

Thanks to the M2 chip, the 15-inch Air boasts an impressive battery life, capable of lasting up to 18 hours on a single charge according to Apple.

Apple claims that the new MBA is 12 times faster than the “fastest Intel-based MacBook Air” and twice as fast as the “best-selling 15-inch PC laptop with a Core i7 processor.” Don’t believe everything that the company said though and take this with a huge pile of salt.

In terms of connectivity, the MBA comes with two USB-C Thunderbolt ports, a MagSafe charging port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also features 3 microphones and 6 speakers for enhanced audio quality.

In Malaysia, the 15-inch MBA starts from RM6,199 and it comes with 8GB unified memory and 256GB SSD storage.

The MBA can be configured to be equipped with up to 24 GB of unified memory and up to 2 TB of SSD storage for a total cost of RM10,999.

Even though the pricing is already available, you still can’t buy the MBA just yet and Apple didn’t say when it will be coming to our shores.
