Penang has established the Penang Chip Design Academy to enhance its integrated circuit (IC) design and digital sectors.
This academy is a crucial part of the state’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Talent Blueprint, set to launch in June.
It will support the development of the IC Design and Digital Park, aiming to make Penang a top investment destination for design and digital businesses, according to The Edge Malaysia.
The academy, managed by the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) in collaboration with InvestPenang and industry stakeholders, focuses on end-to-end design development and talent development through upskilling, reskilling, academic training, and hands-on experience.
Penang hosts 18 of the country’s 20 semiconductor IC design companies, including local leaders SkyeChip, Oppstar Technology, and Infinecs Systems.
The global IC design service market, valued at USD48.97 billion (~RM230.41 billion) , is projected to reach USD84.16 billion (~RM396.96 billion) by 2030.
