Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced the creation of a portal using artificial intelligence (AI) to assist people in verifying received information, combating defamatory news, and battling fraud or scams.

He noted that the portal evolved from the ‘Biar Betul!’ segment aired on Broadcasting Department (RTM) channels, which, being less than a minute long, proved insufficient in addressing the issue, according to Bernama.

“It is still in the early stages but there is a need so that the people in general do not have to doubt about the material they read. If there is any doubt they can refer (to the portal),” Fahmi said.

He emphasised the necessity for improvement, despite daily exposure to scam material, fake content, and slanderous news on platforms like RTM’s ‘Biar Betul!’.

Fahmi highlighted that this new platform will complement existing ones, such as SEBENARNYA.MY by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), MyCheck. My managed by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), and ‘Biar Betul!’, facilitating easier information verification.

Furthermore, Fahmi disclosed plans for collaboration with social media platforms to implement a verification process for information received by users, similar to the ‘Community Notes’ feature on the X platform, enabling users to provide feedback on posts.
