CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), an agency under the Digital Ministry has enhanced its cyber security laboratory facilities, which have gained international accreditation and recognition.

Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong announced that CSM now boasts 23 accredited laboratories, specialising in diverse areas such as digital forensics, cyber threat analysis, assessment and evaluation, and cryptography development, according to Bernama.

He elaborated that CSM has introduced a new proactive service function focusing on preemptive measures to mitigate or prevent future cyber risks.

Wilson outlined five key aspects of CSM’s preemptive technology operation: dark web analysis, surface attack analysis, intelligence data collection and integration, open source analysis, and providing a comprehensive information sharing platform.

Moreover, he mentioned that from 2013 to 7 March 2024, the Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP) conducted 215 awareness programs aimed at educating data users and the public about Act 709, ensuring personal data protection in commercial transactions nationwide.

As an interim measure pending the approval of Act 709’s amendment, Wilson noted that JPDP has introduced a data leakage notification system. Data users encountering incidents of personal data leakage, including hacking threats, are required to submit this notification to JPDP.

This initiative enables the analysis of incident information to promptly implement mitigation measures and control the impact of ongoing leaks.
