Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that the second phase of the 5G network rollout will experience a delay, despite Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) having achieved 80% coverage.

He explained that the delay is attributed to the need for the DNB board to be established before proceeding with the rollout, according to Malay Mail.

Fahmi mentioned that the formation of the DNB board has been pending since the signing of the share subscription agreement on 1 December of the previous year, following discussions.

During a visit to Barcelona, he engaged in conversations with the CEOs of the telecommunications providers involved and conveyed several points. A letter detailing these discussions has been sent to Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican for consideration.

The minister indicated that they are currently awaiting a response from the treasury, emphasising that this process will be time-consuming due to its involvement in legal aspects. As a result, he has delegated the matter to a special committee co-chaired by the Communications Ministry and the chief secretary of the treasury.
