Foodpanda Malaysia, the country’s leading food delivery platform, has unveiled a sister company and a specialised delivery fleet certified halal by the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim).

‘Bekal by foodpanda’ is the only food delivery fleet in the country to be certified halal after
receiving its certification by Jakim in December 2022. It is a new offering by foodpanda with
dedicated riders to deliver exclusively halal-certified food items for orders made via the
foodpanda app and website.

The announcement was made at the 2023 Selangor International Halal Convention (Selhac
2023) by Afzan Lutfi, Director of New Verticals at foodpanda Malaysia.

“We understand that Halal certification is important for the local market. Customers want
assurance that the food delivered to them is done at the highest standards and that the food’s Halal integrity is protected,” said Afzan.

Halal-certified businesses in the food and beverage industry will want to work with a partner
that can secure its last-mile delivery efforts without worrying that the halal integrity of their food or brand is at risk.

“‘Bekal by foodpanda’ can provide assurance to both customers and vendors as the only food delivery company that is certified Halal by JAKIM,” he added.

‘Bekal by foodpanda’ – operated by DHE Logistics Sdn Bhd – currently operates in Putrajaya but with plans to expand to the Klang Valley by year-end and progressively increased to the rest of the country to bring more customer satisfaction for a halal, safe and quality food delivery service.

The delivery fleet made its presence at Selhac held in World Trade Center last weekend when the ‘bekal by foodpanda’ team introduced the new initiative to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari when he stopped by its booth in his walkabout after officiating the
convention.

Foodpanda Malaysia Head of Government Relations and Chairman of the Halal Committee for ‘bekal by foodpanda’, Amri Sham, also spoke at Selhac in elaborating more about the
Company’s other offerings within the halal space, apart from delivering from halal-certified
vendors.

“With the halal certification, ‘bekal by foodpanda’ can also function as a conduit for
government incentives and support in growing the ecosystem of halal vendors. Further down the road, the Company has plans to provide training and coaching to food and beverage vendors in their quest to be halal-certified,” he said.
