All federal, state, and local government employees are directed to complete the online learning program ‘AI Untuk Rakyat’.

The program was launched by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, recently to enhance public awareness of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The directive was issued by the Chief Director of Public Service, Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, through a circular dated 17 January, which was shared on Facebook, according to Berita Harian.

The circular was sent to the Chief Secretaries of all ministries, all federal department heads, state government secretaries, and heads of statutory bodies at the federal, state, and local government levels.

“All public servants in federal ministries/departments/agencies, in states, and statutory bodies at the federal, state, and local government levels are required to complete this learning program to obtain ‘AI Aware and AI Appreciate’ certification.

“This is aimed at ensuring increased awareness among public servants regarding the use of advanced technology.

“The participation of public servants in this AI Untuk Rakyat program is seen as capable of enhancing the implementation achievements of government digital initiatives in public service,” it stated in the circular.

The Public Service Department (JPA) did not specify a specific deadline for public servants to complete the program. However, JPA wants progress on participation in the program to be reported to the Ministry of Economy.

The free AI program can be accessed through www.ai.gov.my, available in Malay, English, Mandarin, and Tamil, divided into two sections, AI Aware and AI Appreciate, which can be completed in approximately four hours.

When launching the program, the Prime Minister gave a deadline until next month for Cabinet members to submit reports on the progress of increasing awareness and literacy in AI within their respective ministries.
