The Chief Statistician, Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, and UPSI Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Dr. Md Amin Md Taff, formally executed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

This collaboration, focusing on data analysis, research result sharing, and the exploration of new findings, was officially solidified on 19 January at UPSI, according to Bernama.

In a subsequent statement, Mohd Uzir revealed that this MoU marks the renewal of an agreement initially established in 2015.

The terms of the MoU encompass various aspects, including joint efforts in statistical research, knowledge exchange, data provision, storage, and information sharing. The collaboration also targets the enhancement of official information quality, guided by mutually agreed-upon laws.

Mohd Uzir emphasised that this partnership is poised to cultivate expertise on both fronts, aligning with contemporary and future data requirements through the adoption of advanced statistical techniques, the implementation of data science and analytics, and other innovative methodologies.

He highlighted UPSI as one of the 24 institutions of higher learning (IPT) engaged in collaborative efforts with DOSM.

Addressing DOSM’s modernisation initiatives, Mohd Uzir disclosed ongoing efforts, such as the development of the main data platform (PADU). This platform serves as an inter-agency data coordinator, specifically designed to collect socio-economic household data.

Launched on 2 January 2024, PADU provides comprehensive profiles of individuals and households, encompassing citizens and permanent residents of Malaysia.

The primary objective is to ensure inclusivity in government initiatives by offering detailed information accessible through the portal www.padu.gov.my.

Mohd Uzir urged the public to actively participate by registering on PADU and updating their data before 31 March, underscoring the importance of accurate and up-to-date information for effective government services and targeted subsidy implementations.
