The Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (Sirim) has the facilities and expertise to make sure that the electric vehicle charging system (EVCS) in Malaysia is safe, reliable and functional.

The agency was quoted by Bernama saying that their subsidiary, Sirim QAS International Sdn Bhd has a certification programme that ensures the security and operation of charging stations, which they added is integral to create and develop the local EV industry.

At Sirim QAS International, we have the expertise and facilities needed to ensure all charging points are safe, reliable and functional. With our certification scheme, the EV industry in Malaysia will be able to advance and develop soon.

It’s reported that the certification process involves comprehensive testing protocols, meticulously examining every aspect to ensure adherence to strict safety requirements and performance standards.

The increase in EVCS, according to Sirim, has raised concerns over safety and legitimacy, which is why procedures must be in place to guarantee drivers in Malaysia the highest levels of safety and efficiency.

A collective effort to make a safe and reliable charging experience

It’s reported that Malaysia’s automotive industry contributes around 4% to the nation’s GDP and is ranked the third-largest automotive market in Asean but the move towards a greener and more sustainable mode of transportation raises concerns about the performance, dependability, and safety of EVs.

According to the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (2021-2030), Malaysia is looking at 10,000 public charging stations by 2025 which Sirim says underscores the need for robust procedures to ensure the highest safety and efficiency for EV drivers.

Certification, according to the agency, extends beyond manufacturers to encompass various industry stakeholders, including charging manufacturers, installers, building contractors, automotive service providers, and EVCS maintenance professionals.

This collective effort ensures a commitment to providing a safe and reliable charging experience for EV owners, fostering a culture of excellence and instilling confidence in manufacturers, regulators, and customers alike. By prioritising safety, reliability and functionality, Malaysia is leading the way towards an environmentally sustainable nation, encouraging electric mobility with confidence and integrity.
