Telekom Malaysia’s (TM) said that it has shut down power and network equipment in flood affected areas as a precautionary measure.
They added that damage to their equipment due to the flood has also disrupted their telecommunication services in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang.
Landslides and high water has also made several nodes in these states inaccessible for repairs.
In a statement, TM said they have sent frontliners and are actively trying to restore the network, minimising the service disruptions to make sure their customers can remain connected.
The company also said they have activated the GLC/GLIC Disaster Recovery Network (GDRN) to provide aid and support to those in need.
TM co-leads the GDRN as the secretariat with Yayasan Hasanah (Khazanah Nasional) in collaboration with the Nasional Security Council (NSC) through National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and other agencies to assist in the disaster relief.
A total of RM50 million has been allocated for the relief efforts, with one half to be provided from the government and the other from the GLC/GLIC joint contributions.
TM Group Chief Executive Officer, Imri Mokhtar said they will mobilise rescue and basic necessities, also healthcare aid to the victims.
Meanwhile, the 56th Royal Signals Telekom Army Reserve Regiment was deployed to give assistance to emergency services involving internet and phone lines nationwide.
Another GDRN collaborator, Celcom has allocated a total of RM2 million to provide support to flooded areas in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and other affected states.
The telco that said it has steams on stand by and keeping its eyes on network sites within flood affected areas to minimise any network interruptions.
