Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi says that his Ministry will review and introduce improvement measures before implementing the Multi-Lane Fast Flow system.

He said his Ministry together with the Malaysian Highway Authority is examining all aspects involving the implementation of the MLFF as planned by the previous government, which started back in 2021.

There is no doubt that the previous government has obtained approval in principle in the implementation of the MLFF. However, this approval is only to give room for the negotiation process to be carried out between the parties involved in the implementation of this MLFF.

Based on previous reports by SoyaCincau, the Multi-Lane Fast Flow (previously known as the Multi-Lane Free Flow) is a barrier-less toll system.

Meanwhile, Malay Mail reported that the implementation of the toll collection system is expected to use automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) technology and the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system.

Highway operators still have the right to collect tolls

He said that currently, the highway concessionaire still holds the absolute right to collect tolls as per the concession agreement.

On this basis, the Ministry team and I are working to ensure the smoothness of this MLFF initiative so that it can meet the expected objectives. This initiative requires comprehensive cooperation and support not only from this Ministry but also concessionaires and the top management of the Unity Government.

It was a response to a news report by FMT which says that thirty-two highway toll concessionaires have protested against the government in awarding a private company the multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) project for all highways.

Based on reports, the government was said to have allegedly awarded RM3.46 billion to a YTL Corporation Bhd-linked company on Nov 17 last year and signed an “appointment agreement” without consulting the highway operators who will eventually pay for the expenses.
