X (formerly Twitter) has added another feature to the platform, and this time it’s audio and video calling.
Upon opening the app, the platform has notified several users with the message that they can now make audio and video calls.
Currently, iOS users exclusively have access to audio and video calling. This feature extends to individuals in the user’s address book, provided it’s linked to their X account, and those they are following.
Additionally, a toggle exists, enabling only verified users, who subscribed to X Premium, to call you.
Users, including some with the blue verification tick, have commented on the post, expressing their inability to access the feature even after updating the app, which suggests that the feature is still undergoing A/B testing, according to GSMArena.
Notably, there is no dedicated call button, indicating that the function is still in its developmental phase, with X in the process of laying the groundwork.
To enable this feature, users can navigate to Settings > Privacy & Safety > Direct Messages > Enable audio & video calling.
According to X’s support page, this feature is exclusively available to X Premium subscribers. However, free users will be able to receive calls, they just can’t make them.
Also, Musk recently said the feature would be available on Android, Mac, and PC as well with “no phone number needed.”
