Apple has rolled out iOS 17.1, iPadOS 17.1, and watchOS 10.1 to all compatible devices. Eligible devices should already have access to the downloads.

iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 introduce the ability to continue a large AirDrop file transfer over the internet when you are out of AirDrop range.

The Apple Music app now allows users to mark songs, albums, and playlists as favourites, and it provides new song recommendations at the end of each playlist.

Improvements have been made to Screen Time syncing across devices, and various bugs have been fixed, such as addressing an issue related to display image persistence and resolving a bug that could reset the Significant Location setting when pairing an Apple Watch for the first time. Additionally, iPadOS 17.1 now supports the recently announced USB-C Apple Pencil.

In watchOS 10.1, the Double Tap gesture is introduced for the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

This gesture allows users to perform primary actions in notifications and most apps, enabling actions like answering calls, controlling music playback, stopping timers, and more.

Apple says the double tap gesture works anytime the display is awake, and the feature has “minimal impact” to the battery life.

The double tap gesture is enabled by default on Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 running watchOS 10.1, with no additional setup required, but it can be disabled in settings.

For Apple Watch Series 7 and later, NameDrop now facilitates contact information exchange by bringing your Apple Watch near someone’s iPhone running iOS 17 or their compatible Apple Watch. My Card is also available as a complication for quick access to NameDrop.

These updates also address various bugs, including issues in the Home app where the climate section would appear blank, problems with syncing cities between the iPhone and the Apple Watch in the Weather app, and an unexpected display of the scroll bar.

Additionally, multiple security vulnerabilities across iOS, iPadOS, and WatchOS have been patched.
