On Tuesday, 16 October, Canadian High Commissioner to Malaysia Wayne Robson and BlackBerry Cybersecurity president and chief executive officer John Gianmatteo visited with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

During the visit, they revealed to Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, that BlackBerry intends to support the country’s economic growth through collaborations with Malaysia.

BlackBerry is Canada’s leading company providing software and cybersecurity solutions, and in the past, it was well-known for its phones.

However, on 28 September 2016, BlackBerry announced it would cease designing its own BlackBerry devices in favour of licensing with partners to design, manufacture, and market. Since then, the company has been specialising in cybersecurity.

Additionally, Gianmatteo informed Anwar that the company plans to establish the first BlackBerry Cyber Security Centre of Excellence in the Asia Pacific region, as reported by Bernama.

On Facebook, Anwar posted that he communicated Malaysia’s commitment to continuing to create opportunities and facilitate high-quality investments for foreign parties interested in investing in the country.

He expressed his hope that the Unity Government’s ongoing commitment and coordinated efforts to shape the economy would attract more foreign investors.
