The Ministry of Health (MOH) aims for the digitization of national healthcare as a whole by 2030.

Berita Harian quoted its Minister, Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who said digitization is now not only the main focus at MOH, but it’s the aim for all services-related facilities.

Implementing the digital transformation of healthcare is very important because it can reduce unnecessary administrative burdens, streamline processes and eliminate waste.

Dr Zaliha mentioned that among the things that will be done is the digitization of health care records and the implementation of an electronic health system which can reduce paperwork, minimise errors and increase the accessibility of patient information, ultimately leading to more efficient health care.

At the same time, she said, doctors, nurses and support staff will be equipped with updated skills and knowledge to meet evolving healthcare needs.

Continuing education and professional development are also important components in the delivery of efficient healthcare.

Public and private sectors can work together to help aid patients

She also pointed out that the global healthcare landscape is undergoing a transformation driven by technological advances, demographic shifts and increasing demand for healthcare services.

Malaysia has made remarkable progress in healthcare over the years but faces unique challenges and opportunities in the ever-changing healthcare environment. Thus cooperation and communication in the health care system between the public and the private sector is very important because it is able to expand access to quality health care services.

The Minister mentioned that one of the things the government is doing at the moment is the MADANI Medical scheme to overcome the issue of overcrowding of patients in government hospitals, helping the B40 group get acute primary care services (acute outpatient treatment) at nearby private general practitioner (GP) clinics.
