WhatsApp just introduced a feature enabling users to establish groups on the instant messaging platform without the necessity of assigning a name.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, revealed this update through his Facebook page on Wednesday (24 August). This update allows users to swiftly form groups, even if they haven’t settled on a specific topic.

However, distinct from the conventional WhatsApp groups that can accommodate up to 1,024 members, the company clarified that the nameless groups will be capped at a maximum of six participants, according to TechCrunch.

These groups will receive dynamic names based on the individuals added to the group, as outlined by the company.

For each participant, the group’s designation will display differently, contingent on their contact listings in their phone.

If you become part of an unnamed group alongside individuals who haven’t saved their contacts, the group name will display your phone number, as indicated by the app.

This aspect suggests that the feature is primarily geared towards friends and family who are already acquainted with one another.

WhatsApp intends to introduce the new nameless groups feature globally in the coming weeks.
