If you are planning to renew your passport at any of these three branches, you should try to do so immediately before June 2023.
The Star reports that next month, online passport renewals will be introduced at the Kajang, Kelana Jaya, and Wangsa Maju immigration branches. As a result, these branches will no longer accept walk-in applications from individuals aged 13 to 59.
The decision to select these three branches was based on their high issuance of passports and their locations with full Internet penetration, including 90% 5G coverage according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
However, these branches will still accept walk-in applications for children under 12 years old, their accompanying family members, individuals with disabilities, those aged 60 and above, as well as pilgrims and students under 21 with offers to study abroad. The online application mechanism for first-time passport applicants, aged 18 and above, including senior citizens, is also being upgraded by the department.
Saifuddin said between April and December of the previous year, a total of 2,347,493 passports were issued nationwide after the movement control order ended. As of 12 May this year, a total of 1,674,293 passports were issued nationwide, with 464,725 of them processed online.
