A lot of people use more than one phone regularly, whether it’s for work or personal communication. However, in the past, it was not possible to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones. This has changed now, as WhatsApp has introduced a highly-requested feature that allows users to do so.
Yesterday, WhatsApp introduced the ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones. Now, users can link up to four extra devices, including phones, just like they can with WhatsApp on web browsers, desktops, and tablets. Each linked phone has a separate connection to WhatsApp, guaranteeing end-to-end encryption for your private messages, media, and calls. If the primary device is idle for an extended period, WhatsApp logs the user out of all the associated devices automatically.
With this new update, users can seamlessly switch between phones without logging out and resume their conversations where they left off. This feature is especially helpful for small business owners who can allow their employees to respond to customers directly using their phones, all under the same WhatsApp Business account.
WhatsApp said the rollout of this update has already begun worldwide, and it will be accessible to everyone in the next few weeks.
Besides that, WhatsApp is also planning to introduce a more user-friendly and accessible way to link companion devices, which will be available over the next few weeks. Users will be able to enter their phone number on WhatsApp Web to obtain a one-time code that they can then use on their phone to enable device linking, rather than having to scan a QR code. The company has expressed its eagerness to expand this feature to more companion devices in the future.
