5G technology has the potential to transform many industries and enable new applications such as autonomous vehicles, remote healthcare, and smart cities. With its increased capacity, 5G will also be able to support the growing number of connected devices in our daily lives, making it a crucial component of the future of communication and technology.
Bernama reports that the Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, announced that the coverage of 5G network in Malaysia had reached 55% by the end of March, which indicates a positive progress towards the government’s target of providing 5G network access to 80% of populated areas before the end of 2023.
However, there is still a remaining 25% to be covered and he said it’s crucial to ensure that the process is not disrupted.
Fahmi revealed that he has been in talks with telecommunication companies about ways to expedite the process, and he plans to meet with the Prime Minister soon to finalise the policy and direction of 5G implementation in Malaysia.
Besides that, Fahmi also announced that the internet provider TIME Fibre is expected to make an announcement next week. This is probably related to the recently launched Unity Package Fixed Internet Broadband for B40, veterans, people with disabilities (PwD), and senior citizens.
