If you were using Instagram (IG) last night and suddenly your account was suspended even though you didn’t do anything wrong, you are not alone.

Users from all over the world complained that their accounts were suspended for no reason at all. Users were told by IG that “we suspended your account on 31 October 2022”. We were unable to ascertain the exact time this outage started, but after around 8 PM, the number of people reporting that they got suspended steadily increased.

According to Downdetector, reports of IG outages peaked at 7,687 reports at 10.08 PM. A couple of hours later, at 10.14 PM, IG confirmed that they were having some issues and they were looking into it.

But it wasn’t resolved until the next morning at 6 AM and later, the head of IG issued an apology for the outage.

IG didn’t go into detail about what exactly happened but it seems like Meta platforms were having more problems lately. On 25 October, WhatsApp was having issue as well, the messaging app went down for a couple of hours, causing work to grind to a halt for people who rely on the app for work. WhatsApp also didn’t provide an explanation as to what happened.
