PlayStation Tournaments first started in 2016 by Sony for PS4 players to compete on their own consoles without stepping out of their homes. Now, Sony has been beta testing this feature for PS5 for three months, and now the company is finally ready to let everyone join in the fun.
The new experience streamlines competitive play by shortening tournament durations, facilitating on-console sign-up, making tournaments easily discoverable, introducing an entirely new user interface, providing real-time match updates, and making other enhancements that address common obstacles to online competitive play.
Everyone with a PS5 or PS4 can join the tournaments. You don’t have to be a pro, but you need some serious skills to win. The tournaments begin with three games: Guilty Gear Strive, NBA 2K23, and FIFA 23.
Sony is also hosting a Win-A-Thon between 1 December 2022 and 31 January 2023, in addition to separate tournaments for each of the mentioned games. In essence, this will serve as a leaderboard for all upcoming competitions for the PS5 and PS4, and winning competitions will provide you points on a regional leaderboard.
Winners can stand a chance to take home prizes including cash, PS5 consoles, new DualSense Edge wireless controllers, and Pulse 3D wireless headset.
Besides that, Sony also launched a new PlayStation Tournaments Discord server. Along with other exclusive content, they will host play sessions and interviews with prominent members of the esports community.
