According to Opensignal report, Malaysia’s 5G network delivers an average 5G download speed of 322.7 megabits per second (Mbps) and an average upload speed of 41.5 Mbps. Our 5G’s network are currently outperforming many other countries.
Bernama reports that Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching stated that by the end of this year, the communications infrastructure will ensure that the 5G network in Penang covers over 80% of COPA (Coverage of Populated Areas).
She added that the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) aims to establish 470 5G towers in Penang, and they have already completed 290 of them.
Teo also said that currently, there are 244 operational 5G towers in Penang, providing coverage to 67.7% of populated areas in the state. This achievement places Penang ahead of the national average for 5G coverage, which is at 64.7% as of 30 June 2023.
She stated that the ministry will collaborate with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) to guarantee to achieve the 80% 5G coverage target nationwide by year’s end.
