The foldable phone market is still relatively small, but it is growing. Samsung is currently dominating the market with its Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models. Other manufacturers such as Oppo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor and a few other brands have also released their own foldable phones. We have been hearing rumours that Google is planning to release one as well and today, we finally have the confirmation
Google just announced their first foldable smartphone known as “Pixel Fold” on Twitter, posting a very short clip, showcasing the phone.
The giant internet company will reveal more information about the Pixel Fold at its Google I/O conference on 10 May 2023. But we don’t have to wait until that day to find out what is the specification.
According to PhoneArena, the Pixel Fold is powered by Google Tensor G2 processor, a Titan M2 co-processor, comes with 12GB of RAM, with support up to 512GB of storage.
It has a 7.62-inch internal OLED screen with 6:5 aspect ratio, 2208 x 1840 pixel resolution (380 ppi density), 120Hz refresh rate, and 1,450 nits of peak brightness. Externally, it has a 5.8-inch OLED screen with 17.4:9 aspect ratio, 2092 x 1080 pixel resolution (408 ppi density), 120Hz, 1,550 nits of peak brightness, and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.
On the back is a triple-camera setup: a 48MP primary camera, a 10.8MP ultrawide camera, and a 10.8MP telephoto camera. It also has two selfie cameras, one 9.5MP front-facing camera and a 8MP inner camera.
The foldable phone is fed by a 4,821mAh battery with support for 30W wired charging. Beside that, it has IPX8 water-resistant rating and USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2.
Google’s first foldable will retail for USD1,799 (approx. RM7,983) in the US and is available on 27 June 2023.
