Today, the national car manufacturer unveiled its electric vehicle brand, “Proton e.MAS,” at the Proton Centre of Excellence in Subang Jaya.
Proton has stated that the e.MAS brand signifies “Electrifying Malaysia,” with the “e” representing electric and “MAS” being the standard abbreviation for Malaysia. The carmaker emphasised that it’s not pronounced as “emas” (gold), but e-MAS.
This is not the first time Proton used the “emas” designation. In March 2010, the company showcased three concept cars known as “Proton Emas“.
The company has not announced any specific EV model nor any estimated pricing, merely stating their intention to release one in December 2024. The first model is most likely going to be based on one of the existing Geely EV SUV models.
Proton has also appointed 17 dealers across the nation to sell their inaugural EV and plans to launch a smartphone app for controlling and managing the vehicle.
Proton said dealer applications are currently being accepted, with an initial goal to establish 30 outlets by the year 2025. Expansion plans will be adapted based on demand.
